Tree

This Chinese folktale tells the
story of a peddler, a young boy, and an old beggar on a summer day. In
spite of the heat and the old man's thirst, the miserly peddler refuses
to give him a juicy starfruit. A young boy overhears and buys the fruit
for the old man. The beggar gratefully accepts, saving only one seed.
The old man plants the seed and uses magic to make the seed grow and
bear fruit, all before the eyes of a gathering crowd. In the end there
is enough for everyone, and the young boy is rewarded for his
generosity. Hardcover, 32 pages. Ages 4-8. BW-1892
