The Pea Blossom

As they ripen, five peas in a pod imagine their futures. Four of the peas imagine grand futures, while the smallest is content to “go wherever it is that I am meant to.” When their shell is torn open by a boy with a pea shooter, the 4 peas with elaborate plans quickly meet grim fates while the fifth lands on a window ledge where it sprouts and becomes a window garden for a gravely ill girl. It is the little pea’s happy destiny to inspire the girl to regain her health. 32 pages. Ages 4-8.
